SDIT's "I Am What I Want To Be": A Play Exploring Identity and Acceptance Across Europe

SDIT (Self Determination and Inclusion by the Theater) aims to experiment and pilot an innovative methodology. With this aim in mind, a road show involving people with and without autism was presented in Portugal, Spain and Italy. The play, entitled "I am what I want to be", is a portrait of identity, acceptance and diversity. Through sensitive scenes and profound dialogue, we follow characters who experience the world in unique ways, whether through silence, escaping words, subtle gestures or acute sensitivity, without ever mentioning autism.

The stage becomes a space for reflection, where each story invites us to look beyond appearances and realise that feeling, existing and expressing oneself doesn't have just one path. In the end, the play leaves us with a message: everyone has the right to be whoever they want, in their own time and in their own way. It's up to each of us as a society to embrace what's different and include everyone, regardless of their condition.
