Transforming Theatre: Training Professionals for Autism-Friendly Practices
Training Professionals in Portugal
Starting December 4th, approximately 12 theatre professionals across Portugal participated in a theoretical course and practical activities organized by the SDIT Project.
The practical sessions are being conducted by Teatro da Vila through in-person test sessions, allowing participants to implement the methodologies within their own companies.
The sessions have been highly interactive, and the project has achieved significant success! This training equips professionals to welcome more autistic young people into their companies and helps them feel better prepared to accommodate the needs of the young individuals they already serve.
Building Inclusion with Viento Sur Teatro
The SDIT course has been very well received in Spain, with 60 people enrolling. Of these, between 15 and 20 have actively participated in the online sessions. Additionally, teachers from Viento Sur Teatro are applying what they have learned in the course during the practical sessions.
Participants in the course report that their understanding of autism has significantly improved. They have been able to break down prejudices and myths surrounding autism. Furthermore, they now possess practical tools to include autistic people not only in theatre classes but also in various roles within the theatre industry as potential job opportunities.
We sincerely appreciate their active participation and thank Viento Sur Teatro for their involvement in the project.
Casa Saddi Hosts Successful Training Sessions in Italy
Every Monday during December and January, Casa Saddi welcomed participants for the SDIT Project training, in collaboration with Il Crogiuolo - theatre intervention center, and coordinated by Rita Atzeri. Recent sessions have focused on the professional development of participants. Notably, Professor Roberta Fadda from the University of Cagliari contributed her expertise to one of these training sessions. Following a break for the Christmas holidays, the project resumed with further professional training, which saw active engagement from participants. These weekly theatre workshops delivered significant emotional impact and, more importantly, marked new achievements for the participants.
